To start, I’d like to tell you a little more about myself. My name is Jessica Waller. I grew up in Bowmanville all my life. I really do believe its a wonderful place to have grown up and now, living in the tiny village of Kendal (just east of Kirby Ski Hill) I look forward to one day raising a couple kids in the Durham region.
In school, I was an average student until grade 10 biology. I was introduced to anatomy of the entire body, which I love. But especially the anatomy of the eye itself. This is where my passion began. Anatomy in general is an amazing thing, but I especially love the eye and all its cool features. After high school I took some time to just work, which is where I got my first job in the field, for Hakim Optical. I worked there helping train staff, opening stores and covering holidays or sick days, helping where ever i was needed, all over Durham Region. I did this for about 3 years before deciding to make my passion a career. I made the move to Barrie Ontario and attended the Opticianry program at Georgian College. While at school, I excelled and was tutoring in a couple different classes. I graduated with honours in 2006. After college, Hakim Optical promoted me to store manager of their Bowmanville location. The last few years, Hakim Optical, gave me an amazing experience and life lessons by allowing me to help open a store in Calgary. Then they asked me to help retrain staff and manage three seperate locations in Saskatoon, also look after the Saskatoon lab. It was an amazing experience, which sparked my current dream and now reality, my very own store.
